Islanders hire ex-Devils GM Lamoriello

NEW YORK (AP) Lou Lamoriello is taking over the New York Islanders.

All the questions belong to him now.

The Islanders announced the hiring of Lamoriello on Tuesday as president of hockey operations, giving the longtime NHL executive the keys to a franchise that has missed the playoffs eight times in the past 12 years with Garth Snow as general manager.

Canadiens sign G Niemi to 1-year deal

MONTREAL (AP) Goaltender Antti Niemi was seeking stability more than money when he agreed to a one-year, $950,000 contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

Who could blame the 34-year-old, who was eligible for free agency on July 1, after a whirlwind 2017-18 season? Niemi was bought out by the Dallas Stars last summer, signed with Pittsburgh, was claimed on waivers by Florida and then claimed again by Montreal.

Enterprise buys name to Blues' arena

ST. LOUIS (AP) The home of the St. Louis Blues is getting a new name: Enterprise Center.

The NHL team on Monday announced a 15-year arena naming rights agreement with suburban St. Louis-based Enterprise Holdings, which operates Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Alamo Rent a Car and National Car Rental. Terms were not disclosed.

Swedes edge Swiss to defend worlds gold

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Sweden capped a victorious run through the ice hockey world championship by edging Switzerland 3-2 on Sunday in the final after a penalty shootout to successfully defend its title.

Filip Forsberg scored the decisive goal in the shootout to give Sweden a third world title in six years, and 11th overall.
